Too Blessed to be Stressed... Inspiration for Every Day by Debora M. Coty

Too Blessed To Be Stressed. . .Inspiration for Every Day: 365 Devotions for Women by [Coty, Debora M.]

Let’s start with the summary of the book:

Thousands of women have had the pleasure of reading the wit- and near-wisdom-filled books from beloved inspirational humorist, Debora M. Coty. Her Too Blessed to be Stressed has become a perennial favorite, selling upwards of 46,000 copies since its 2011 release. Now, ready to rescue you from the joy-sucking dully-funks, is an all-new 365-day devotional featuring just-right-sized, truth-filled readings (gift-wrapped in humor) for your heart. The Too Blessed to be Stressed daily devotional touches on everyday life topics like relationships, love, boundaries, hope, brokenness, and praise, while helping you to arrive at healing, refreshment, and revitalization of spirit, body, and faith.

And now, my review:
The devotions in this book are quick and thought provoking for the day.  I thought the titles of the devotions were catchy and well-worded.  Debora writes in such a way that draws you in.  There is a list of Scripture references in the back of the book that are great for looking to see if she has a devotion for a specific verse.  I found that very helpful.  If you like to laugh, you’ll be delighted with this author.  I found myself laughing quite often through this book.  It’s refreshing to have her share real-life happenings and bring it around to application in our journey with the Lord Jesus.

A Pattern for Pepper by Julie Kraulis

Let’s start with the book summary:

From pinstripe to hounds tooth join Pepper on her journey into the history of textiles as she works alongside a tailor to make her perfect dress.

Pepper is getting a dress made for a special occasion. It's the first dress that has ever been made just for her, and she wants it to be perfect. But what pattern is right for her? Pepper is particular, and nothing works at first. Dotted Swiss? Too plain. Hounds tooth? Not enough color. Pinstripe? Too glum. As Pepper learns about each fabric, she finds a reason why it's just not the one. Will Pepper ever be able to find the perfect pattern?

Julie Kraulis takes readers on a journey through gorgeous patterns and their origins--from the mountains of Switzerland to the green grass of Scotland--in search of Pepper's ideal pattern. The incredible illustrations make for a dress, a character and a book that are impossible to forget.

And now, my review:
With this book you get to learn about different designs in fabric.  The girl had to make a choice in which one she wanted and she always used great manners in responding to those she didn’t want to go with.  Some of her responses were really funny.  This is a great book for those little ones out there that are into fashion and design.

Nick Newton is Not a Genius by S.E.M. Ishida

Let’s start with the book summary:

Nick Newton is not a Genius. He’s just a merely average boy from the country of Thauma. He may not be brilliant like his mom and dad or a child prodigy like his sister, but he won’t let that stop him from uncovering the mysteries of a clockwork factory or revealing a war hero's greatest secret. With help from two new friends and his butler named Jude, Nick embarks on an adventure that will change his life forever.

And now, my review:

You’ll want to check this one out!  What a great mystery!  This was a page-turner for sure.  The people were very creative and funny.  The book is well put together with a great story line.  It was not predictable and it kept the attention of all ages of readers (elementary, middle school, and high school).  We are looking forward to reading it again soon!

There, There by Tim Beiser and Bill Slavin

Let’s start with the book summary:

For fans of Penguin Problems and A Birthday for Bear, the story of a whiny rabbit pushing a patient bear to the end of his tether and learning a lesson in looking on the bright side.

Do you ever feel like everything is terrible? Like nothing is ever right and you just want to hide under your pillow? Well Rabbit does, and he's not shy about sharing it. He whines, he complains, he moans, he grumps... until Bear has had enough and decides it's time for Rabbit to learn to appreciate what he has. Using nothing but the lowly common earthworm as an example, he teaches Rabbit a lesson about taking things for granted. Something the worm knows all about...

Written in charming verse and featuring a delightfully domestic bear and a very surly rabbit, There, There is a fantastic tongue-in-cheek riff on the idea that "it could be worse..."

And now, my review:

Ever have a bad attitude where life seems like it’s always down…  that’s the attitude of the “there, there”.  This book addresses this attitude and paints a picture of another way to process your thoughts.  The pictures are cute and the words flow well.  My children thought the worm was the funniest :) If you’re looking for a cute read for your little ones, this might just be the one.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

Jesus is Alive by Debby Anderson

Let’s start with the book summary:

The hope of Easter comes to life in Jesus Is Alive. Through colorful pictures of a child’s day with family and friends, little hearts learn about the time leading to Jesus’s death and resurrection. Most importantly, they learn that in Jesus all things are new!

Cuddle and Sing is the bestselling board book series that teaches the love of Jesus to children ages zero to three. This is the first seasonal book to be released in the series and continues the delightful tone that makes the first three books so popular.

And now, my review:

We have Debby Anderson’s Jesus Loves Me book and have read it/sang it over and over and over.  When we saw this book by her we just had to check it out!  We love the illustrations to her work!  The cover says to sing it to the tune of Row, Row, Row your boat.  We had found that singing it to the tune of Jesus is Alive works better for us.  End result, Jesus Loves Me is still our favorite, but this one was cute.  I will share the link to the song we found and sang it to and the link to purchase your own copy.

Me Tall You Small by Lilli L'Arronge

We’ll start with the book summary:

Me Tall, You Small is a series of playful vignettes in the daily life of a pair of weasels, parent and child. Whether they are having a bubble bath, kicking a soccer ball, or eating ice cream together, simple paired phrases showcase their loving—and amusingly realistic—relationship. After a fall: You boo-boo. Me bandage. At bedtime: Me tired. You wired.

Creative use of language with wordplay, onomatopoeia, and rhyme infuses this book with humor and surprise. Together with the text, expressive line-drawn artwork drives home the funny differences between life as a parent and a child. This silly, touching read-aloud will have both parties celebrating their role, whether tall or small.

And now, my review:

This book is ADORABLE!  The words go great together and the pictures are so cute.  Sometimes it has you laughing out loud and other times… aww.  If you love to read to your little ones, this one’s a great one!

Crossroads in Galilee by Elizabeth Raum

Let’s start with the book summary:

Imagine you lived at the time when Jesus was beginning His ministry in Galilee and were a child who observes what He does. At numerous points in the book, you choose what comes next, and every choice changes the outcome of the story. When one journey ends, a new one awaits.
This is a companion book to Christmas Crossroads.

And now, my review:

I love it when a book puts you the place that you’re reading.  This book was great in the story telling as well as the choices that they gave you to choose an outcome.  Reading books that give you this option makes for reading the book often to see what else could happen.  Great adventure awaits …  If you like books like that, you’ll want to pick up a copy of this one!  Check it out on the links below.

Little Kangaroo by Guido van Genechten

Let’s start with the book Summary:

The world is big ... Much, much bigger than Mother Kangaroo's pouch. But Little Kangaroo would rather stay with Mommy, where it's safer, warmer and easier. Mom tries to show Little Kangaroo all that life has to offer. It does no good at first, but then...

A splendid picture book about letting go in a loving way.

And now, my review:

I thought this was a cute read for young ones.  It had some funny parts.  The mom would encourage him to come and see something like butterflies or monkeys and he would rather not J  Until one day…  My girls were giggling through it.

The King of Kindness by Terrica Joseph, Paula S. Wallace

The King of Kindness
Let’s start with the book summary:

Timmy loves to play games against his friends, especially checkers. He comes up with new moves all the time, and he never loses! But will Timmy's competitive nature come between him and his best friend?

Now for my review:

We loved the detail that was captured in this delightful children’s book.  The drawings on each page were loveable.  It sparked some great conversations, as a family, on what KINDNESS looks like.  If you’re looking for character conversation starters among you and your children, I recommend you check this one out.
