The Captain's Daughter by Jennifer Delamere

The Captain's Daughter (London Beginnings Book #1) by [Delamere, Jennifer]

Here is the book summary:
Warm-Hearted Victorian Romance Brings 1880s London to Life

When a series of circumstances beyond her control leave Rosalyn Bernay alone and penniless in London, she chances upon a job backstage at a theater that is presenting the most popular show in London. A talented musician and singer, she feels immediately at home and soon becomes enthralled with the idea of pursuing a career on the stage.

A hand injury during a skirmish in India has forced Nate Moran out of the army until he recovers. Filling his time at a stable of horses for hire in London, he has also spent the past two months working nights as a stagehand, filling in for his injured brother. Although he's glad he can help his family through a tough time, he is counting the days until he can rejoin his regiment. London holds bitter memories for him that he is anxious to escape. But then he meets the beautiful woman who has found a new lease on life in the very place Nate can't wait to leave behind.
And now, my review:

This is a great historical fiction that paints the picture of London in the 1800’s.  This being said there are nice things about London at that time and not so nice things about London.  This author does a great job with making it feel really realistic and not predictable with some intense scenes of what one might fall into if found a woman, alone in the city of London at the train station.  I’m really glad that the heroine found freedom from the sad situation and not just freedom but exciting hope.  I’m also a huge fan of George Muller and that was a great touch to the story for me.  This is written with the idea that the main woman is a former orphan at the orphanage.  It shows her living out the truths she learned under George’s roof all those years.  It’s a great read!

Heart on the Line by Karen Witemeyer

Heart on the Line (Ladies of Harper's Station Book #2) by [Witemeyer, Karen]

Here is the book summary:
Grace Mallory is tired of running, of hiding. But when an old friend sends an after-hours telegraph transmission warning Grace that the man who has hunted her for nearly a year has discovered her location, she fears she has no choice. She can't let the villain she believes responsible for her father's death release his wrath in Harper's Station, the town that has sheltered her and blessed her with the dearest friends she's ever known.

Amos Bledsoe prefers bicycles to horses and private conversations over the telegraph wire to social gatherings with young ladies who see him as nothing more than an oddity. His telegraph companion, the mysterious Miss G, listens eagerly to his ramblings every night and delights him with tales all her own. For months, their friendship--dare he believe, courtship?--has fed his hope that he has finally found the woman God intended for him. Yet when he takes the next step to meet her in person, he discovers her life is in peril, and Amos must decide if he can shed the cocoon of his quiet nature to become the hero Grace requires.
And now for my review:
Ahhh romance, this is a great historical fiction back in the time of the telegraphs.  I found the plot to be well thought out and expounded on.  It got down right intense in parts of this book and I found myself not being able to put the book down.  The gist of finding love across the line was really a great idea and I look forward to reading more from this amazing author.  Check this one out for yourself at the links below and enjoy some good old fashion romance in the making with suspenseful things all around.

Amish Cooking Class - The Blessing by [Brunstetter, Wanda E.]

Here is the book summary:
Six new cooking class students.  New friendships form, a romance blossoms, and hearts receive healing nourishment. Will Heidi’s own hurting heart also be healed?

Despite stressful changes occurring in their lives, Lyle and Heidi once again open their Ohio home up to those seeking to learn about Amish cooking. This time a teenager helping her divorced dad cook for the family, a caterer needing new recipes, a food critic, a hunter looking to impress his buddies, a wife given the class as an unwanted gift, and a mailman lured in by the aroma of good cooking gather around Heidi’s table.

During each class, Heidi teaches culinary skills, but it is her words of wisdom that have a profound effect on her students—though, this time Heidi’s own hurting heart will need some healing nourishment.

This is the second book in The Amish Cooking Class series.
Book #1:  The Amish Cooking Class - The Seekers

And now, my review:
This is book 2 in another great series by Wanda E Brunstetter.  She has a way of painting quite a written picture and is one of my favorite Amish authors.  This book is primarily about another cooking class that Heidi has decided to hold at her home.  Teaching people recipes of things she likes to make herself is a passion for her.  The people who sign up for her class, all varying in age, are the people we follow throughout the book and each person has a life story being unfolded.  I love reading through and following each person’s story and how their lives have been and are being worked out and intertwined.  There are many twists and turns and it keeps you reading.  You’ll want to pick this one up.

Imagine the Great Flood by Matt Koceich

IMAGINE... The Great Flood by [Koceich, Matt]

Here is the book summary:

IMAGINE...
The ocean swirled around the boy and pulled him down with unrelenting power. Heavy water churned and tugged at his flailing body like unseen hands yanking him into the watery depths. The fight was finally over. Even though he’d tried to stand up to the enemy, the waves were about to swallow him whole.

The last thing ten-year-old Corey remembers (before the world as he knew it disappeared) was the searing pain in his head after falling while chasing his dog Molly into the woods. What happens next can't be explained as Corey wakes up and finds himself face-to-face with not one but two lions!

Join Corey and experience the excitement. . .the wonder. . . the adventure. . .as the epic story of Noah’s ark comes to life.

Imagine. . .The Great Flood is the first release in an exciting, brand-new epic adventure series for kids ages 8 to 12 written by schoolteacher and missionary, Matt Koceich. The Imagine series brings the Bible to life for today's kids as they ponder what it would be like to live through a monumental biblical event.

And now, my review:

This story is a book written through the eyes and life of a 10 year old boy.  He is facing a BIG move in his life and learning the life lesson of I CAN TRUST GOD NO MATTER WHAT.  This story takes him on a journey to be in the time of Noah and experience some of what was going on in the land at that time.  Noah and his family were the ONLY ones following the One True God and this author paints quite the great read aloud picture of it.  I definitely can’t wait to read more from this author and highly recommend this book to you.
