I thought that Amazing Loom Knits by Nicole Cox was an inventive way of showing all the different things you can put together using a loom.  My daughter didn’t realize before this book that you can use the loom in so many different ways to creative so many different things with it.  I personally really liked the mittens.  I think that you’ll be able to find a project that catches your eye.  The instructions seem laid out pretty well.  This book will really come in handy for our library of creative thread ideas.

Keeping the Faith by Lianna Davis

Here is the book summary:
An In-Depth, Theologically-Rich Study of the Book of Jude
In a culture of subjectivity and "speaking your truth," we need to know how to lovingly fight for our biblically-based, truth-filled faith. That’s where Jude comes in. With a striking combination of humility, genuine love, doctrinal faithfulness, and directness, the biblical writer Jude teaches you how to treasure the gifts of salvation, the faith, the Church, and—most of all—Jesus Christ. By unpacking Jude’s meaning-laden words, we can learn to keep ourselves for Christ, even as Christ is ably keeping us for Himself.
You’ll be amazed at how much you can learn as you walk verse-by-verse through this small epistle. You’ll learn:
·       Why Jude uses metaphors like waterless clouds and wild waves
·       What was going on in Jude’s time theologically and why it matters
·       Why the warning passages can be a deep comfort to the believer
·       To appreciate new dimensions of your belonging in Christ
Get to know the oft-neglected voice of Jude, be comforted and challenged in your faith, and build community as you gather friends and study His Word together in Keeping the Faith.

And now, my review:
I found Keeping the Faith by Lianna Davis to be a blessing of a study in God’s Word.  The Book of Jude is only 25 verses long but it sure does pack a punch.  As with every Book of the Bible, studying them is so important.  There is a part of a verse from it that keeps coming back to me over and over in verse 4, “For certain people have crept in unnoticed…”  There is a call to beware!!  The author mentions a cross-reference of Matthew 7:15 which calls us to beware.   Throughout the study the author has weaved in personal experience/testimony with God’s Word along with commentaries.  I found that it really brought it “home” to me.  I was encouraged by her personal sharing.  As she breaks each day down with just a very small portion of Scripture, I took time to just think on that in relation to everything building up to that point.  This really is a great way to find oneself memorizing the whole Book of Jude by the end.
I received a copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

Just for the girls in your life, ages 5 and up, this collection of twelve extraordinary stories of women of faith will empower girls to know and understand how women have made a difference in the world and how much smaller our faith would be without them. Colorful illustrations complement the true stories of these twelve amazing women:

Catherine Booth, cofounder of The Salvation Army
Amy Carmichael, missionary to India
Fanny Crosby, blind hymn-writer

Mary Slessor, missionary to Africa

Corrie ten Boom, Dutch watchmaker who helped many Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust of WWII
Mother Teresa, Catholic nun and missionary
Sojourner Truth, Civil Rights leader
Harriet Tubman, leader of the Underground Railroad

The stories of these courageous women will encourage and inspire young girls to become the world-changers God created them to be!

And now, my review:
In She Believed, each person has a large print, one-page synopsis of their story written up for the reader to learn about them with a drawing of their likeness on the opposite page.  There are 12 women mentioned altogether.  My girls really liked this book.  They also felt that they wished for more information on each person.  If you’re looking for a quick read of some amazing women, this may be a great resource for you.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

The 40-Day Sugar Fast by Wendy Speake

Here is the book summary:
What would you be willing to give up to experience the presence of God in your life again?

Many of us sign up for a physical detox program, thinking that if our bodies are healthier, then we're healthier. But a healthy body doesn't do us a lot of good if we are spiritually malnourished.

Welcome to the 40-Day Sugar Fast, a fast that begins with us giving Jesus our sugar and ends with Jesus giving us more of himself--the only thing that can ever truly satisfy our soul's deep hunger. On this 40-day journey you'll learn how to stop fixating on food and other things you use to fill the voids in life and instead fix your eyes on Christ.

Anyone who runs to sugar for comfort or a reward, who eats mindlessly or out of boredom, who feels physically and spiritually lethargic, or who struggles with self-control will discover here not only freedom from their cravings but an entirely new appetite for the good things God has for us.

And now, my review:
The 40-Day Sugar Fast by Wendy Speake was a down to earth, let’s get serious about discovering what is holding us back from experiencing a closeness with the Father.  She goes way beyond sugar and really encourages personalizing your journey in these 40 days.  I was so blessed to be part of a community working through this for 40 days and it has set a course for me to be more mindful of this all year long.  I just finished and I’m already planning for my next 40 days of fasting.  I love this author's transparency and her personality.  I look forward to future works by this author for the glory of the Lord.

Isaiah's Legacy by Mesu Andrews

Isaiah's Legacy: A Novel of Prophets and Kings by [Andrews, Mesu]

Here is the book summary:
The drama of the Old Testament comes to life as Judah's most notorious king ascends to the throne in this gripping novel from the award-winning author of Isaiah's Daughter.

At eight years old, Shulle has known only life in a small village with her loving but peculiar father. When Uncle Shebna offers shelter in Jerusalem in exchange for Shulle's help tutoring King Manasseh, Judah's five-year-old co-regent who displays the same peculiarities as her father, she's eager to experience the royal court. But Shulle soon realizes the limits of her father's strict adherence to Yahweh's Law when Uncle Shebna teaches her of the starry hosts and their power.

Convinced Judah must be freed from Yahweh's chains, she begins the subtle swaying of young Manasseh, using her charm and skills on the boy no one else understands. When King Hezekiah dies, twelve-year-old Manasseh is thrust onto Judah's throne, bitter at Yahweh and eager to marry the girl he adores. Assyria's crown prince favors Manasseh and twists his brilliant mind toward cruelty, beginning Shulle's long and harrowing journey to discover the Yahweh she'd never known, guided with loving wisdom by Manasseh's mother: Isaiah's daughter, the heartbroken Hephzibah. Amid Judah's dark days, a desperate remnant emerges, claiming the Lord's promise, "Though we're helpless now, we're never hopeless--because we serve El Shaddai." Shulle is among them, a girl who becomes a queen through Isaiah's legacy.

And now, my review:
I found Isaiah’s Legacy by Mesu Andrews to be intense, intriguing, and disturbing to its core.  To see the change of kings, go from Hezekiah, which was a good, God-honoring king, to Manasseh, which was an evil king was so heart-wrenching.  The treatment Isaiah received had my heart breaking and the worldly customs taken on because of the leaving of Yahweh and His Ways was so distressing.  This author doesn’t mince words as she paints it in such a gripping and raw way.  Looking for historical fiction at its best, this is it.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

What's So Wonderful About Webster by Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick

Here is the book summary:
It’s almost field day, and Webster is worried. He can’t run fast, he trips on the jump rope, and his Frisbee always lands in a tree. How will he help his class get the medal? Webster is sure that God forgot to make anything special about him.
Join Webster and his class as the whistle blows and he discovers a few God-given skills that just might save field day. This whimsical, illustrated picture book reminds young readers that they were each wonderfully made by God!
And now, my review:
What’s So Wonderful About Webster by Stephen and Alex Kendrick is a book that talks about finding out what special thing you were created by God for.  They were very imaginative in their word choices, flow, and story concept.  We really enjoyed the full-color illustrations. I think this book talks to the child who struggles with finding what thing they are good at.  This can be a lonely question of indecision when everyone around you has figured it out.  I hope that there are more books coming out by these authors and the illustrator.

On-The-Go Devotional

Here is the book summary:
Life gets busy. And sometimes that means spending time in God’s Word doesn’t happen every day, or maybe the quick devotion teens do manage to squeeze in doesn’t dig deep or feel meaningful. That’s where On-the-Go Devotional can help.

Not only is this devotional compact and lightweight—perfect for taking along on busy days—but it also contains thought-provoking devotions on twenty topics that are relevant to teens. Each devotion helps readers get to the core of the passage with bulleted facts or action points, and the devotions even include an application, so teens can take the message on the go with them. This devotional is still a great resource on the days that they aren’t so busy, as each devotion includes a reading suggestion for digging deeper in God’s Word.

And now, my review:
This On-The-Go Devotional is a devotional that includes 200 entries for teens to read through as they are walking out their teenage years.  I have 3 teenagers in my house for which this will come in very handy.  They break it down with different themes in mind including “joy”, “worship”, and “hope” to name a few.  I really liked that they broke them down into categories.  Each devotional has a Scripture verse, some words to take in from that reading and a nugget to carry with them as they learn to put feet to it.
