And now, my review:
She Laughs by Carolanne Miljavac was truly a hilarious book mixed with such inspiration to not take oneself too seriously.  I don’t know about you but that’s something I can stand to hear and put into practice.  Sometimes life can get too adult-like and she encourages that we take time to play.  She includes 10 wonderful chapters that had me challenged and laughing out loud.  She also shares so deeply from the heart and her life experiences that really blessed my heart.

When God Says Wait by Elizabeth Laing Thompson

Here is the book summary:
A job, a true love, a baby, a cure. . .
We’re all waiting for something from God.
And the place between His answers can feel like a wasteland where dreams—and faith—go to die.

When we’re waiting, we wonder, “Why?”, “Why me?”, and “How long?”

But the truth? . . .
When God says, “Wait,” He doesn’t tell us for how long.
When God says, “Wait,” we face one of life’s greatest tests.
When God says, “Wait,” we have decisions to make.
When God says, “Wait,” we can control only two things: how we wait, and who we become along the way.

Author Elizabeth Laing Thompson invites you to journal through your personal "wait" and come out on the other side with your faith, relationships, and sense of humor intact.

This lovely volume will encourage and inspire you in your wait--with meaningful devotional thoughts, scriptural truths, and thought-provoking journal prompts.

Features:
·       A beautiful, textured hardcover binding
·       Delightfully designed one-color interior with quality paper
·       Dozens of encouraging, inspiring thoughts from Elizabeth Laing Thompson's popular Christian living title When God Says, "Wait"
·       Generous space to record personal thoughts and feelings
·       Thought-provoking reflection questions and journal prompts
·       Scripture selections on every spread

And now, my review:
When I held this journal in my hands, I was so elated because the feel of this hard-covered textured journal feels so heavenly.  It’s the little things that add up while going through times of waiting that I embrace to be thankful over.  This book is great with the spinning computer circle icon with every page.  On each page she has a verse on the left-hand side and thoughts with writing prompts on the right.  I found that there are plenty of lines to write on and I think this is a God-send for those waiting times in our journey with the Lord.  Bravo to the author and designer of this amazing journal for the tough times.

The Scripture Memory Map For Women by Barbour Publishing

Here is the book summary:
What Does Scripture Memorization Look Like? . . .
Find out in The Scripture Memory Map for Women.

This unique scripture memory journal is an engaging and creative way for you to treasure the truths of God's Word in your heart. Each page features a lovely 2-color design that guides you to write out specific scripture memory goals, thoughts, and more. . .which then create a specific "map" for you to follow as you memorize God's Word. Each map includes a spot to record the date, so you can look back through your journal and see how God's Word has been ingrained into your daily life. The Scripture Memory Map for Women will not only encourage you to become more familiar with God's Word. . .it will also help you build a healthy spiritual habit of Bible memorization for life!

And now, my review:
I just loved this little book for jotting down the verses that God brings to mind to memorize.  It prompts different things to write down such as what prompted the verse to come to mind and what it means to me and my walk in Him.  It’s really great for keeping all the verses together in one place.  My only down is the amount of space for the memory verses. I tend to memorize more than one verse in a given passage.  There’s only 5 lines in a square for the verse space.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Disciple Her by Kandy Gallaty

Disciple Her: Using the Word, Work, & Wonder of God to Invest in Women by [Gallaty, Kandi]

Here is book summary:

We all know Jesus commands us to disciple others.
But how are we supposed to do this in everyday life? How can women, no matter what stage of life they are in, be a disciple who makes disciples? How can we find time to invest ourselves into others when it feels like our schedules are already full? What is our place in carrying out the Great Commission?

In this practical book, Kandi Gallaty helps you develop an effective disciple-making strategy in your life and the lives of others. Disciple Her is filled with Kandi’s personal stories, more than a decade’s worth of discipleship experiences, and most importantly, her commitment to the Word of God.

Kandi doesn’t stop at helping women understand what discipleship is—she gives them a practical game plan for weaving it into their weekly lifestyle, and teaching those they disciple to do the same. Disciple Her will be a point of reference for women to use time and time again in the years to come as women intentionally obey Jesus’ command to invest their lives into others.

And now, my review:

What I found about Disciple Her by Kandi Gallay is likened to a B12 shot.  It sure was a boost to me.  The equipping she includes can really help us to start and keep starting again and again with more and more women and everyone involved doing this.  This is a twelve month to 18 month charge to meet as a group of women and grow with the Word as the central focus.  She offers for us to bring in other books but keeping the Word the main core and not letting your group turn into a book club is very important which I totally agree with.  She has helps for bumps in the road that we might face as we go along and I was thankful for her willingness to share with us readers.  May this book encouraging Matthew 28:18-20 find its way into many hands for His Word, Kingdom, Name, and Glory alone!

The Prayer Coin by Elisa Morgan

Here is the book summary:
You can be totally honest with God.

He wants to know exactly how you feel. The Prayer Coin will help you express your deepest emotions to God and have confidence in His will for your life. You’ll explore Jesus’s prayer in the garden of Gethsemane and see His ultimate example of intimacy with the Father. Learn how to trust God the same way Jesus did when He said, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42).

Even as a popular and trusted author, speaker and media host, Elisa Morgan struggled with what to pray—her request or God’s will. She understands your need to be heard and your desire to follow the Father. Elisa shares her journey of growing closer to God and incorporates lessons from Scripture to help you find peace in your own prayer journey.

"Applying the two sides of prayer can move us deeper in dialogue with God," Elisa says. "On and on, deeper and deeper, further and further, we flow into oneness that reflects the unity Jesus enjoyed with his Father."

Experience the hope of praying with honesty, abandoning your will, and growing closer to God.

And now, my review:
The Prayer Coin by Elisa Morgan is a book that brings about a requisition to pray with an honest heart, but also an appeal to pray with an abandoned heart.  Honest and abandoned are the key to this author’s words about the two-sided prayer coin.  She really brings the reader along on a journey of His Word and then brings about her ideas of what she has been learning as she presses into His Word.  I really appreciated her vulnerability to share personal experiences in her writing.  Her participation in what she is asking of me and everyone who reads her writing.  This is my first book from her in a while and I’m so thankful that I’ve read it.  The journaling aspect that she brought up really has challenged me and I’m resting in God’s plans for me in it.  Looking forward to seeing what He reveals in my honest and abandoned prayers.

Sovereign Hope by Claudia Barba

Sovereign Hope: A Study of the Minor Prophets (Reflections for Women) by [Barba, Claudia ]

Here is the book summary:
Sovereign Hope: A Study in the Minor Prophets explores the lessons taught in the last twelve books of the Old Testament. Many of us are unfamiliar with what God has to teach us through the accounts of the Minor Prophets. The men chosen to share the Lord’s message lived in times as turbulent as ours. In this study, the Minor Prophets show you how to trust a mysterious God in Habakkuk, to obey God no matter what in Jonah, and to confront pride, procrastination, and more in Obadiah and Haggai. As you work through the passages in the Minor Prophets, you will see the sovereign hope the Lord gives us.

And now, my review:
Sovereign Hope by Claudia Barba is a book about the Minor Prophets and I just love it when an author chooses to take on something that is not often taken on.  She’s upfront and comes across in a way that connects me to what I’m reading.  You don’t have to wonder where she is coming from because she addresses her position right away.  She brings about the facts she mentions in ways that challenge me to contemplate the Truth and if I’m lining up to it correctly.  She equips the reader with nuggets to share.  This book is a great reference for me after I have studied a book Inductively and I’m excited to have it in my library.  I look forward to more from this author in the future.

Susie by Ray Rhodes Jr

Susie: The Life and Legacy of Susannah Spurgeon, wife of Charles H. Spurgeon by [Rhodes Jr., Ray]

Here is the book summary:
The definitive biography of Susannah Spurgeon.
While many Christians recognize the name of Charles H. Spurgeon, the beloved preacher and writer, few are familiar with the life and legacy of his wife, Susie.  Yet Susannah Spurgeon was an accomplished and devout woman of God who had a tremendous ministry in her own right, as well as in support of her husband. Even while dealing with serious health issues, she administered a book fund for poor pastors, edited and published her husband’s sermons and other writings, led a pastor’s aid ministry, wrote five books, made her home a hub of hospitality, and was instrumental in planting a church. And as her own writing attests, she was also a warm, charming, and fascinating woman.
Now, for the first time, Susie brings this vibrant woman’s story to modern readers. Ray Rhodes Jr. examines Susannah’s life, showing that she was not only the wife of London’s most famous preacher, but also a woman who gave all she had in grateful service to the Lord.
Susie is an inspiring and encouraging account of a truly remarkable woman of faith that will delight Spurgeon devotees and fans of Christian biographies alike.
“I am writing in my husband’s study, where he thought, and prayed, and wrote. Every inch of the place is sacred ground. Everything remains precisely as he left it. His books (now my most precious possessions), stand in shining rows upon the shelves, in exactly the order in which he placed them, and one might almost fancy the room was ready and waiting for its master. But oh! That empty chair! That great portrait over the door! The strange, solemn silence, which pervades the place now that he is no longer on earth! I kneel sometimes by his chair, and laying my head on the cushioned arms, which so long supported his dear form, I pour out my grief before the Lord, and tell Him again that though I am left alone, yet I know that ‘He hath done all things well’…”

And now, my review:
Reading the works of Spurgeon has always been a blessing to many believers throughout the years including myself.  This book is on the life of the wife of Charles H. and it brings to life all the things going on throughout their lives together.  The happy moments, the family dynamic changes, and the hard times and how they navigated through it all by holding on to God.  That makes it a book that encourages the reader to know God and hang on to Him in all the types of “water” that life brings.  Whether they are ideal calm “water” moments or crazy tumultuous crashing seas it inspires others through the telling of their life and walk with the Savior through it all.

Just Open the Door by Jen Schmidt

Just Open the Door: How One Invitation Can Change a Generation by [Schmidt, Jen]
Change a generation with something as simple as an invitation.
For many of us, inviting people into our lives and homes feels more like inviting judgment on our entertaining skills and stress on our already maxed-out schedules. But what if you knew that opening your front door had the power to radically change the world? To make an impact and leave a legacy with everyday invitations?
Jen Schmidt has set out to reframe how we think about hospitality and to equip us to walk a road of welcome in our daily lives. Jen knows that every time we choose open-door living—whether in our homes or by taking hospitality on the road just like Jesus—those we invite in get to experience the lived-out Gospel, our kids grow up in a life-lab of generosity, and we trade insecurity for connection.

Just Open the Door is a personal yes-you-can guide to offering the life-changing gift of invitation. Whether you’re a seasoned host looking for renewed inspiration or a nervous newbie not sure where to begin, these personal stories, practical ideas, and poignant insights will give you the confidence you need to see your home as the most likely location for changing the world around you, one open door at a time.

And now, my review:
Wow, Just Wow… This book makes me want to go out and invite people in…  Such a scary exciting adventure to show Christ’s LOVE in this way.  I wish this lady was my neighbor and we had a street of women pursuing this together and we banned together and went for it sharing our experiences at each of our houses.  Really that’s what it’s about but we’re just spread all over the nation, which is a good thing, and maybe there is a community blog or facebook group where we’re able to share in the successes and struggles.  That would be great.  Regardless, I suggest you pick up this book and be ready to be challenged in what it looks like to Just Open The Door to those God puts in your life.

Uncommon by Carey Scott

Uncommon: Pursuing a Life of Passion and Purpose by [Scott, Carey]

Here is the book summary:
Uncommon is a battle cry for women to step out of the ordinary and live differently.
It's a blueprint for a life full of passion and purpose. And it has the power to change everything.

Carey Scott, author, speaker, and certified Biblical Life Coach, invites you to journey alongside her as she introduces you to women from the Word who chose to live uncommon lives even in the toughest circumstances. From stepping into scandalous situations to breaking cultural norms to risking the departure of a comfortable life, you will discover hope and motivation to live God’s way in a world that screams, “Tuck your faith away! Just be normal like everyone else!”

Now more than ever, it's time to step into something new. . .something life-changing and life-giving. God is asking you to shine Him into a world that needs to know there is a better way to live. And when you say yes to becoming uncommon, it's a radical act of obedience to the One who created you to be extraordinary.  Uncommon offers personal stories, insights, life lessons, questions for further reflection, and biblical support written especially for women.

With authenticity, vulnerability, humor, refreshing boldness and anchored in the Beatitudes, Uncommon will empower you to rise up. . .to reject the common. . .to embrace your calling. . . and to live in a way that points others to God. Buckle up, friend. It's time to be uncommon.

And now, my review:

“Weebles Wobble, but they don’t fall down, a perfect mantra for uncommon faith,” this author puts it this way and then goes into more and more of the uncommon ways of living out our lives in devotion to the Savior.  She speaks of things that hold us back, like fear, offenses, and forgiveness, and she helps us work through those thoughts to free us to right thinking and living uncommon.  Extending lavish love is definitely uncommon and what God extends to me and to you.  Want to join the challenge?

Gospel-Centered Mom by Brooke McGlothlin

Gospel-Centered Mom: The Freeing Truth About What Your Kids Really Need by [McGlothlin, Brooke]

Here’s the summary of the book:
It’s Time to Stop Trying to Be the Perfect Mom

You long to be the mom your kids need, but often you’re convinced you come up short. The label “not enough” seems to be stamped across everything you do—and yet parenting is the one thing you want most to get right.

What if the solution is simply to embrace the truth that you are not enough—but God is?

In Gospel-Centered Mom Brooke McGlothlin reveals how our entire approach to motherhood shifts when we stop chasing our vision of a perfect family and start full-out pursuing God. With refreshing candor, Brooke examines the daunting task of raising children in the light of God’s Word and challenges you to:

        · embrace your moment-by-moment need for Jesus
        · release the stress of believing everything is your responsibility
        · learn to fight for rather than against your child
        · believe that the story God is writing with your life is worth the sacrifice
        · practice the daily disciplines that lead to Gospel-centered parenting

As you learn to anchor your life in the Gospel, you’ll find increased freedom, purpose, and joy in motherhood. And you’ll discover that Jesus is more than capable of meeting every need, for your children and for you.
And now, my review:
This book talks about the Gospel and what is called the “me-gospel” which isn’t the gospel at all.  Instead it is what we think might be the gospel that we live out, but it’s all about ourselves instead of Christ and coming to Him and dying to ourselves.  My favorite part was when she talks about “enough” and the truth involved in our desperate need for Christ each and every day.  Learning to speak truth to our children and see our lives in service to Christ as we’re given the opportunity to raise some littles that He’s given us.  What a gift!  I recommend this book for those who are looking to walk out their days Gospel focused/driven.

Awaken: 90 Days with the God Who Speaks by [Shirer, Priscilla]

Here is the book summary:
The choice of a devotional book is more personal than most. This kind of reading is not merely for the purpose of leisure and enjoyment. So you need to choose wisely.

For even though she’s written multiple best-selling books and Bible studies, including the 2016 ECPA “Christian Book of the Year” (Fervent), even though she regularly speaks to thousands at conference venues and churches around the world, even though she was the lead actress in a #1 box-office feature film (War Room) . . . It all starts for Priscilla where it all starts for you.

Alone with God. Alone with His Word. Eager to hear His voice. Prepared to humbly and obediently respond. She hopes, more than anything else, that the daily insights you receive in these pages will challenge, encourage, and strengthen you in every way.

This devotional is . . . a good choice.
And now, my review:
Wow, another amazing book by an amazing woman of God, in humility and grace that God uses to speak to us His truths.  This book is set up in 90 different days with different subjects that you will find yourself resonating with.  At least that’s what happened to me.  One day I had read the reading for that day and then was in a conversation with a friend who mentioned the struggle of that day and I just handed her my kindle to read that days reading and she was SO blessed!  Praise the Lord!  One of my favorites that hit home for me and was such a visual that I just loved was day 8.  It has to do with circus animals and the circles that train them and being set free only to find themselves struggling to break away from the circles of habits.  I highly recommend this book and this author to you.

Too Blessed To Be Stressed. . .Inspiration for Every Day: 365 Devotions for Women by [Coty, Debora M.]

Let’s start with the summary of the book:

Thousands of women have had the pleasure of reading the wit- and near-wisdom-filled books from beloved inspirational humorist, Debora M. Coty. Her Too Blessed to be Stressed has become a perennial favorite, selling upwards of 46,000 copies since its 2011 release. Now, ready to rescue you from the joy-sucking dully-funks, is an all-new 365-day devotional featuring just-right-sized, truth-filled readings (gift-wrapped in humor) for your heart. The Too Blessed to be Stressed daily devotional touches on everyday life topics like relationships, love, boundaries, hope, brokenness, and praise, while helping you to arrive at healing, refreshment, and revitalization of spirit, body, and faith.

And now, my review:
The devotions in this book are quick and thought provoking for the day.  I thought the titles of the devotions were catchy and well-worded.  Debora writes in such a way that draws you in.  There is a list of Scripture references in the back of the book that are great for looking to see if she has a devotion for a specific verse.  I found that very helpful.  If you like to laugh, you’ll be delighted with this author.  I found myself laughing quite often through this book.  It’s refreshing to have her share real-life happenings and bring it around to application in our journey with the Lord Jesus.
