The Prayer Map Devotional by Donna K Maltese

Here is the book summary:

THE ORIGINAL Prayer Map Devotional!

Encouragement and inspiration for purposeful, more focused prayer is right here!

This practical and inspiring The Prayer Map Devotional will guide you through 28 weeks of devotional readings and prayers plus the creation of weekly prayer maps to help you better focus your daily prayer time. With prayer-related themes like TRUSTING GOD, BEING PERSISTENT IN PRAYER, and EXPERIENCING THE POWER OF PRAYER, you will be encouraged to spend regular time in the heavenly Father's presence and share what’s on your heart. . .as you continue to build a healthy spiritual habit of continual prayer for life!

And now, my review:

I found The Prayer Map Devotional by Donna Maltese to be just what I was looking for.  It’s informative and yet full of space for you to experience times of prayer with God.  It started me out with a great lesson on the Who, What, Where, When, Why of prayer.  That one just really was special to me because of the Inductive approach carrying over to prayer.  (I’m an addict of Inductive Bible Study as student and teacher, so this just screamed loudly at me.)  That as just the beginning and it just built from there.  I loved the set up and the packed devotions that were small but boundless.  Yes, to this one!

The Light of His Presence by Anne Graham Lotz

Here is the book summary:

The beloved Bible teacher and daughter of Billy Graham shares a rich treasury of her personal prayers to guide you into deeper, more intimate daily conversations with God.

Why is it that as soon as we bow our heads to pray, we start thinking of other things we need to do? How do we make time to pray in the middle of our busy lives? And how do we know what to say and how to say it?

Like many of us, Anne Graham Lotz has struggled with prayer. Over the years, she discovered that writing out her prayers draws her into deeper, more intimate conversations with God. The Light of His Presence offers forty of these tender, honest prayers for real-life situations as an invitation to deepen your own prayer life through worship, confession, thanksgiving, and intercession. You’ll be encouraged to lean more fully into God’s promises through this power-packed devotional resource, which includes inspiring quotes from Christians throughout the ages and also has space to journal your own words to God.

As Anne writes, “My prayer for you . . . is that God will use my struggle with prayer to help you overcome yours. And that, as a result, you will be drawn nearer to the heart of God.”

And now, my review:

I found The Light of His Presence by Anne Graham Lotz to be an amazing resource for prayer in my life.  I’m so blessed to have this book in my hands and I find that I flip all over the place in it to pray all sorts of areas all at once.  She really is such a blessing to share her prayers in all sorts of areas with us.  She’s lived what she’s written in these pages and it shows real, raw prayer. So, I turn to the topic I’m wanting to pray about and see how it fits into my personal experience in that moment.  For example, it might be fear and then she prays Scripture through her section on fear.  I will be using this for years to come.  I highly encourage this resource for your prayer time.

Prayer: Forty Days of Practice by Justin McRoberts and Scott Erickson

Prayer: Forty Days of Practice by [McRoberts, Justin, Erickson, Scott]

Here is the book summary:

A simple yet profound guide to facilitate the instinctively human desire to pray.

We pray because we are human, not because we are religious. Something in our nature points beyond itself; something in us searches for and desires personal connection with God. Although communicating with our Creator through prayer is innate, the effective practice of it often feels just beyond our reach.
This unique book guides you to pray in deeper and more authentic ways. The short prayers and thought-provoking imagery, interspersed with contemplative reflections and suggested practices, will stir, inform, and encourage you. The simplicity of the prayers and the aesthetic appeal of the images will inspire people in every facet of life, including those with no real religious background at all.

And now, my review:

Prayer Forty Days of Practice was a book that was very simple.  I received a digital copy of this to review and the images didn’t come out very well.  Maybe with the physical book, it might be laid out well and would be a blessing but for me, with this digital copy, it was hard for me to enjoy the art.  The words at times, seemed very simply put and this made the book extremely simple and lacking to me.  The author did add in a few example stories that added to some practices and I found those to be a great addition.  Infact, I think more of that would have fixed the lacking I was feeling.

I received an ARC in digital format of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Prayer Coin by Elisa Morgan

Here is the book summary:
You can be totally honest with God.

He wants to know exactly how you feel. The Prayer Coin will help you express your deepest emotions to God and have confidence in His will for your life. You’ll explore Jesus’s prayer in the garden of Gethsemane and see His ultimate example of intimacy with the Father. Learn how to trust God the same way Jesus did when He said, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42).

Even as a popular and trusted author, speaker and media host, Elisa Morgan struggled with what to pray—her request or God’s will. She understands your need to be heard and your desire to follow the Father. Elisa shares her journey of growing closer to God and incorporates lessons from Scripture to help you find peace in your own prayer journey.

"Applying the two sides of prayer can move us deeper in dialogue with God," Elisa says. "On and on, deeper and deeper, further and further, we flow into oneness that reflects the unity Jesus enjoyed with his Father."

Experience the hope of praying with honesty, abandoning your will, and growing closer to God.

And now, my review:
The Prayer Coin by Elisa Morgan is a book that brings about a requisition to pray with an honest heart, but also an appeal to pray with an abandoned heart.  Honest and abandoned are the key to this author’s words about the two-sided prayer coin.  She really brings the reader along on a journey of His Word and then brings about her ideas of what she has been learning as she presses into His Word.  I really appreciated her vulnerability to share personal experiences in her writing.  Her participation in what she is asking of me and everyone who reads her writing.  This is my first book from her in a while and I’m so thankful that I’ve read it.  The journaling aspect that she brought up really has challenged me and I’m resting in God’s plans for me in it.  Looking forward to seeing what He reveals in my honest and abandoned prayers.

Teach us to Pray by Gordon T. Smith

Teach Us to Pray by [Smith, Gordon T.]

Here is the book summary:
One of the most basic and vital dimensions of the Christian life is the practice of prayer. Frequently our prayers begin with a petition or request, so the content of our prayers is informed by our circumstances. But what if the opposite were true? What if we allowed our prayers to inform our lives? What would our lives be like if prayer altered our living and began to shape the contours and content of our daily experiences? Gordon Smith invites us to learn three movements of prayerthanksgiving, confession, and discernmentin order to be formed and transformed by prayers that seek God's kingdom "on earth as it is in heaven." Whether you are a beginner in the life of prayer or further along, this small book is a resource for deepening your prayer practice.

And now, my review:
This book is based on the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples to pray when they asked Him to teach them.  This author takes each step and walks us through it and explains what it can look like.  He starts us with the step of thanksgiving, confession, and practicing discernment.  He tells us what he thinks it means when we pray “Thy kingdom come” and all the other phrases.  The author tells of the importance of leaning on the Spirit to guide us with this.  There is evidence that he brings out of how we can tell if we are praying in the Spirit.  This author makes reference to the Eucharist, Ignatius Loyola, and Bonhoeffer as well.

42 Days to a More Powerful Prayer Life by Glenn Hascall

Here is the book summary:
Transform Your Prayer Life in 6 Short Weeks

Do you yearn for a deeper, more meaningful, more powerful prayer life, but don’t know where to begin? Or maybe you struggle with praying repetitive prayers that seem little more than a ritual.

This simple how-to guide will lead you on a six-week experience that can result in real prayer-life-transformation. Each week opens with a devotional chapter that introduces that week’s theme, and then every day of the week includes an inspirational thought as well as three short prayer points that can be accomplished in a few minutes, perfect for morning, noon, and night.

Weekly Themes Include
·        Praying for Others
·        Praying for Myself
·        Praying God’s Will
·        Praying through Tough Times
·        Hearing God
·        The Model Prayer
·        Praise as Prayer.

And now, my review:
This devotional book is set up with 6 weeks of prayer times that have a focus a week that builds each day.  First, you start with praying for others, then yourself, for God’s will, during hard times, hearing from God, and more and more on prayer.  Each day is set up with praying 3 different times with thoughts that go along with it to guide you.  I felt that the challenges that the author puts out are basic but thought-provoking, based on Scripture, and in need of the Holy Spirit’s power to follow through on.  All I needed was a journal and time before the throne and I was on my way to see what God wanted to say and is still saying.

Fervent by Priscilla Shirer

Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer by [Shirer, Priscilla]

Here’s the book summary:
You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t general or generic, not a one-size-fits-all. It’s specific. Personalized. Targeted.

So this book is your chance to strike back. With prayer. With a weapon that really works. Each chapter will guide you in crafting prayer strategies that hit the enemy where it hurts, letting him know you’re on to him and that you won’t back down. Because with every new strategy you build, you’re turning the fiercest battles of life into precise strikes against him and his handiwork, each one infused with the power of God’s Spirit.

New York Times bestselling author Priscilla Shirer, widely known for her international speaking, teaching, and writing ministries, brings her new role from the 2015 film War Room into the real lives of today’s women, addressing the topics that affect them most: renewing their passion, refocusing their identity, negotiating family strife, dealing with relentless regrets, navigating impossible schedules, succeeding against temptation, weathering their worst fears, uprooting bitterness, and more. Each chapter exposes the enemy’s cruel, crafty intentions in all kinds of these areas, then equips and encourages you to write out your own personalized prayer strategies on tear-out sheets you can post and pray over yourself and your loved ones on a regular basis.

Fervent is a hands-on, knees-down, don’t-give-up action guide to practical, purposeful praying.

And now, my review of this book:
This book is a great read and follow up to the movie, “War Room”.  If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend that you do it this weekend!  The idea of Spiritual Armor is talked about in Ephesians 6 and it’s something we are to put on each and every day of our lives because Ephesians 6:12  states that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  In this book Priscilla walks us through each area of our lives where we can stand guard in prayer with our armor on and be ready to battle the attacks coming at us.  Whether you are young or old, single or married, a parent or not, this book is a great growing guide in this needed area in a believer’s life.  Check it out today along with other great reads by this author.
