The Lieutenant's Bargain by Regina Jennings

The Lieutenant's Bargain (The Fort Reno Series Book #2) by [Jennings, Regina]
Here is the book summary:
Hattie Walker dreams of becoming a painter, while her parents want her to settle down. As a compromise, they give her two months to head to Denver and place her works in an exhibition or give up the dream forever. Her journey is derailed when a gunman attacks her stagecoach, leaving her to be rescued by a group of Arapaho . . . but she's too terrified to recognize them as friendly.

Confirmed bachelor Lieutenant Jack Hennessey has long worked with the tribe and is tasked with trying to convince them that the mission school at Fort Reno can help their children. When a message arrives about a recovered survivor, Jack heads out to take her home--and plead his case once more.

He's stunned to run into Hattie Walker, the girl who shattered his heart--but quickly realizes he has a chance to impress her. When his plan gets tangled through translation, Jack and Hattie end up in a mess that puts her dreams in peril--and tests Jack's resolve to remain single.

And now, my review:
The Lieutenant’s Bargain by Regina Jennings was a book that I found to have adventure and suspense with romance thrown in there as well.  This is the second book in the series by this author and I think could be read without reading the first book in the series.   With that being said, I think the first book is definitely worth reading and if I had to decide on rating them I would rate the 1st book higher.  This book drew me in with the cover.  It gives a great feel of early American life around the American Indians.  The determination to work with them and find ways to work together and not against each other is inspiring.  The adventure of what she thinks her future should look like in contrast with what her future turns out to be is exciting to watch unfold.

Reinhold Weiss has finally purchased his own small farm. With mounting debts, a harvest to bring in, and past scars that haunt him, he's in no position to give his heart away . . . but can he say no when his long-lost friend shows up on a nearby train pleading for his help?

And now, my review:
Searching For You by Jody Hedlund is the third book in this series and it’s so nice to continue on in the story of the orphans traveling West.  I really enjoy this author because of her way of painting a great scene and drawing the reader into the story with such emotion that it becomes a page-turner of love and loss and love and suspense and restoration and wondering of what to do next.  Watching all the relationships work themselves out…  There’s so much to it but it’s never overwhelming to keep it all worked out in my mind. Such a stirring read.  I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

Who I Am With You by Robin Lee Hatcher

Who I Am with You (A Legacy of Faith Novel) by [Hatcher, Robin Lee]

Here is the book summary:
For these two broken hearts, the first step toward love will be a huge leap of faith.
Jessica Mason isn’t looking for love when she meets Ridley Chesterfield. Instead, she is still reeling from the tragic, unexpected loss of her husband and daughter—and awaiting the arrival of her unborn child. Harboring the secret of her husband’s betrayal, her pain is deeper than anyone knows.
Ridley Chesterfield is hiding out in Hope Springs, Idaho, avoiding a political scandal and the barrage of false media headlines that have tarnished his good name. The last thing Ridley wants is a relationship—but when fate leads Ridley to form a friendship with his reclusive and pregnant neighbor, he wonders if this small-town hideout might be more of a long-term destination.
When Jessica begins to read her great-grandfather’s Bible, she finds a connection with a man she never knew. Somehow the verses he marked and the words he wrote in the margins open her heart to healing. And as Ridley and Jessica help each other forgive the people who have wronged them, they must decide if the past will define them or if they will choose to love again.
Who I Am With You weaves together a modern-day romance with Jessica’s great-grandfather’s story from the 1930s, reminding us that some truths can cross generations and that faith has the power to transform families forever.

And now, my review:
Who I am With You by Robin Lee Hatcher is an amazing spin of current day events and flashbacks to love long ago.  I really enjoyed that the author did this with the story and looked forward to the jumping back and forth.  This story has love and loss and hurt and healing and restoration and the sweetest neighbor dog.  I love the element of hope for the future that is set out by God.  It inspired me to want to get my paints out and create an awesome masterpiece.  I thought this was a great read!

Imagine The Fall of Jericho by Matt Koceich

Here is the book summary:
The Third Release in an Epic Bible Adventure Series for Kids

The last thing fifth-grader Jake Henry remembers (before the world as he knew it disappeared) is napping at summer camp. What happens next can't be explained as Jake finds himself surrounded by massive stone walls that rise up all around him—in ancient Jericho! Imagine. . .The Fall of Jericho is the third release in an exciting epic adventure series for kids ages 8 to 12 written by schoolteacher Matt Koceich. The Imagine series brings the Bible to life for today's kids as they ponder what it would be like to live through a monumental biblical event.

And now, my review:
Imagine… The Fall of Jericho by Matt Koceich is a wonderful fiction story based on the True story of the Walls of Jericho falling down in the Word of God.  The relatability of the boy was spot on.  There are so many who feel unwanted and unloved and this is a great example of the truth of that untruth.  The main character finds himself in Jericho and it’s so intense and frightening, in a good way.  A great thing we enjoy about this writer is that he has a way with words and he makes it so colorful and realistic.   Relationships are formed and untruths change into truth.  Can’t wait to read his next one…

The Prayer Coin by Elisa Morgan

Here is the book summary:
You can be totally honest with God.

He wants to know exactly how you feel. The Prayer Coin will help you express your deepest emotions to God and have confidence in His will for your life. You’ll explore Jesus’s prayer in the garden of Gethsemane and see His ultimate example of intimacy with the Father. Learn how to trust God the same way Jesus did when He said, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42).

Even as a popular and trusted author, speaker and media host, Elisa Morgan struggled with what to pray—her request or God’s will. She understands your need to be heard and your desire to follow the Father. Elisa shares her journey of growing closer to God and incorporates lessons from Scripture to help you find peace in your own prayer journey.

"Applying the two sides of prayer can move us deeper in dialogue with God," Elisa says. "On and on, deeper and deeper, further and further, we flow into oneness that reflects the unity Jesus enjoyed with his Father."

Experience the hope of praying with honesty, abandoning your will, and growing closer to God.

And now, my review:
The Prayer Coin by Elisa Morgan is a book that brings about a requisition to pray with an honest heart, but also an appeal to pray with an abandoned heart.  Honest and abandoned are the key to this author’s words about the two-sided prayer coin.  She really brings the reader along on a journey of His Word and then brings about her ideas of what she has been learning as she presses into His Word.  I really appreciated her vulnerability to share personal experiences in her writing.  Her participation in what she is asking of me and everyone who reads her writing.  This is my first book from her in a while and I’m so thankful that I’ve read it.  The journaling aspect that she brought up really has challenged me and I’m resting in God’s plans for me in it.  Looking forward to seeing what He reveals in my honest and abandoned prayers.

Overcomer by Dr David Jeremiah

Here is the book summary:
We live in a time of deep uncertainty. And yet, the Bible promises we were created to enjoy lives of freedom, even in times when the world around us seems filled with darkness. We were created to be overcomers, conquering the greatest obstacles in our lives.
In his new book, Overcomer, beloved teacher David Jeremiah offers his insights on one of the most quoted but least understood passages of the Bible: the apostle Paul’s admonition to the Ephesians to take up the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). With his signature depth, wisdom, and compassion, Dr. Jeremiah explores the powerful relevance of spiritual armor as a critical tool each day as we confront the specific challenges in our lives and of our time.
If you’ve had enough of living in defeat, it is time to find renewed strength and claim the promises of God’s Word to overcome life’s greatest threats.

And now, my review:
Overcomer by Dr. David Jeremiah has blessed my socks off with the Truth that drips from the pages.  It’s challenged me with Truth and sent me to the Word.  It’s spoken Truth in ways that I need to hear and more than once.  I need to embrace these Truths and live in light of His Word which this author brings out on every page.  I love the way he brings everyday stories in showing me his meaning and by bringing these in it’s powerful and heavy.  He speaks of the Armor we, as believers, are to put on and walk in every day.  I’m so blessed to have been confronted by this written work.

Be transported back in time by this gripping tale of adventure, bravery, and redemption, and discover why Debbie Macomber says, “No one brings the Bible to life like Tessa Afshar.”

And now, my review:
Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar was a wondrous work of historical fiction based on the historical time frame of when the Apostle Paul walked the earth.  I relished the point of view of seeing the interactions Paul had with the characters in this book.  The author builds the characters for the first half of the book and then Paul enters the scene.  It’s quite the painting of the defiled lifestyle of the Greek people that Paul was sent to share the gospel with.  Overall, I really enjoyed the book, but also I wish there had been more mention of Paul and his engaging Scripture like she did with the love chapter.  ABSOLUTELY the BEST part of the book for me.  I look forward to reading another book by this author in the future.

The Reluctant Warrior by Mary Connealy

Here is the book summary:
Union army officer Cameron Scott is used to being obeyed, but nothing about this journey to Lake Tahoe has gone as expected. He's come to fetch his daughter and nephew, and seek revenge on the people who killed his brother. Instead, he finds himself trapped by a blizzard with two children who are terrified of him and stubborn but beautiful Gwen Harkness, who he worries may be trying to keep the children.

When danger descends on the cabin where they're huddled, Cam is hurt trying to protect everyone and now finds Gwen caring for him too. He soon realizes why the kids love her so much and wonder if it might be best for him to move on without them. When she sees his broken heart, Gwen decides to help him win back their affection--and in the process, he might just win her heart as well.

And now, my review:
The Reluctant Warrior is the second book in a series by Mary Connealy.  I think you could read this book without reading the first one but at the same time, there are a lot of things that make more sense to me having read the first book which I much enjoyed.  I found in this book, that there are many people who find themselves held up for the winter months on a man’s property and with that comes suspense, romance, danger, adventure, learning to communicate with those you are placed with, and vision to face head-on the struggle around them.  I find all those items to be a great strategy for an entertaining fictional book.  Another great one by this author.

Kingdom Files Who is Jesus by Matt Koceich was a book my 6th grader read and she really enjoyed it as she read about all of Jesus’ journeys, miracles, and friends.  He uses clues as he writes and he goes into details as he talks about the clues.  He mentions quite a few of the stories in the gospels, but not all of them.  It’s a good beginner book for someone seeking to know more about Jesus.  He answers the question: Who is Jesus.  He includes pictures in the book that kids would like.  My daughter would encourage families to read it together and talk about what they are learning.

Suffering is Never for Nothing by Elisabeth Elliot

Suffering Is Never for Nothing by [Elliot, Elisabeth]

Here is the book summary:
Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy.

Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God.

Why doesn’t God do something about suffering? He has, He did, He is, and He will.

Suffering and love are inexplicably linked, as God’s love for His people is evidenced in His sending Jesus to carry our sins, griefs, and sufferings on the cross, sacrificially taking what was not His on Himself so that we would not be required to carry it. He has walked the ultimate path of suffering, and He has won victory on our behalf.

This truth led Elisabeth to say, “Whatever is in the cup that God is offering to me, whether it be pain and sorrow and suffering and grief along with the many more joys, I’m willing to take it because I trust Him.”

Because suffering is never for nothing.

And now, my review.
Relating much with this author in different ways, this book has been beyond words to me, an off the chart work.  Like Corrie Ten Boom and Ruth Myers, Elisabeth Elliot shows the power of our God displayed in His creation for His glory.  She has taught me, blessed me, and stretched me.  The Truth she shared was right on target.  She has given some amazing challenges that I kept pausing while reading with a “HUMPH!”  I will treasure this book and already have it on my calendar to read it again.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
