Vying for the Viscount by Kristi Ann Hunter

Here is the book summary:

For Hudson, the newly titled Viscount Stildon, moving to England from India where he was born and raised was already an arduous enough endeavor. When he learns the fate of the racing empire he inherited along with his title depends upon him getting in the good graces of another stable owner, he's even more at a loss.

The stable at the neighboring estate has been Miss Bianca Snowley's refuge for years, and when a strange man appears to be stealing the horses, she jumps to their protection without a second thought. Upon learning Hudson is actually the new owner, she can't help but be intrigued by the area's newest eligible bachelor.

Any thought of romance is quickly set aside, however, when Hudson proposes they work together to secure suitable spouses for each other. As their friendship grows, Hudson and Bianca begin to reconsider what they truly want in life. But will societal expectations and the weight of their responsibilities keep them from pursuing their true desires?

And now, my review:

Vying for the Viscount by Kristi Ann Hunter had me hooked from the start.  The Viscount is arriving at his inherited estate to see the condition and make arrangements to keep it going strong.  I was laughing out loud when he comes upon the interaction of the woman thinking that he’s broken into the stable to steal a horse.  SO funny!  And so, the story unfolds from there.  There’s a wonderful twisting of a charming plot to this one.

A Malleable Heart (California—1870) by Jennifer Uhlarik

And now, my review:

The Blacksmith Brides includes 4 wonderful historical fiction stories in one.  I didn’t make it through Forging Forever because I found the main plot too disturbing.  This has nothing against the author and I’m sure other will love it.  I found Worth Fighting For a non-stop read of drama and romance.  I found A Tempered Heart to be a wonderful read set in a wonderful time period.  And for Malleable Heart what a great premise for another charming story.  Overall, I enjoyed this book.

A Life Once Dreamed by Rachel Fordham

Here is the book summary:

Six years ago, a shocking secret sent Agnes Pratt running in search of a new start. She found it in Penance, a rugged town of miners and lumberjacks in the Dakota Territory, where she became Miss Aggie, respected schoolteacher and confirmed old maid. But the past has a way of catching up with people.

When childhood friend and former sweetheart James Harris accepts a position as the town doctor, Aggie's pleasantly predictable days suddenly become anything but. James wants to know why Agnes left behind the life they had dreamed of creating for themselves--but he is the one person who can never know.

In the shadows of the Black Hills, can a healing light be shed on the past? Or will the secret Agnes can't seem to outrun destroy her chance at happiness?

Fan-favorite Rachel Fordham brings to life the dusty streets of an 1880s frontier town in this story that affirms where you come from matters far less than where you're going.

And now, my review:

A Life Once Dreamed by Rachel Fordham was a lovely read of romance.  A woman traveled far away from all she knew to set about life on her own with a new set of people in her life.  What she left behind eventually caught up to her.  I found this to be so drawing that I had it finished quite quickly and enjoyed the journey with these characters.  Well-drawn up and intrigue to the last page.

A Mosaic of Wings by Kimberly Duffy

A Mosaic of Wings by [Kimberly Duffy]

Here is the book summary:

It's 1885, and all Nora Shipley wants, now that she's graduating from Cornell University as valedictorian of the entomology program, is to follow in her late father's footsteps by getting her master's degree and taking over the scientific journal he started. The only way to uphold her father's legacy is to win a scholarship, so she joins a research expedition in Kodaikanal, India, to prove herself in the field.

India isn't what she expects, though, and neither is the rival classmate who accompanies her, Owen Epps. As her preconceptions of India--and of Owen--fall away, she finds both far more captivating than she expected. Forced by the expedition leader to stay at camp and illustrate exotic butterflies the men of the team find without her, Nora befriends Sita, a young Indian girl who has been dedicated to a goddess against her will.

In this spellbinding new land, Nora is soon faced with impossible choices--between saving Sita and saving her career, and between what she's always thought she wanted and the man she's come to love.

And now, my review:

I found A Mosaic of Wings by Kimberly Duffy to be a delightful read.  All about a woman back in the day trying to accomplish what society said she can’t and shouldn’t.  My heart was tugged at the loss of her father who believed in her and encouraged her love of insects and learning.  Her mother was sickly and remarried.  This caused quite the stir in the story.  This author does a great job at drawing you in.  I found myself cheering, angered, and emotional with the characters.  That’s what makes a wonderfully penned story.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Storing Up Trouble by Jen Turano

Storing Up Trouble (American Heiresses Book #3) by [Jen Turano]
Here is the book summary:

When Miss Beatrix Waterbury's Chicago-bound train ride is interrupted by a heist, Mr. Norman Nesbit, a man of science who believes his research was the target of the heist, comes to her aid. Despite the fact that they immediately butt heads, they join forces to make a quick escape.

Upon her arrival in Chicago, Beatrix is surprised to discover her supposedly querulous Aunt Gladys shares her own suffragette passions. Encouraged by Gladys to leave her sheltered world, Beatrix begins working as a salesclerk at the Marshall Field and Company department store. When she again encounters Norman on a shopping expedition, he is quickly swept up in the havoc she always seems to attract.

But when another attempt is made to part Norman from his research papers, and it becomes clear Beatrix's safety is also at risk, they soon discover the curious way feelings can grow between two very different people in the midst of chaos.

And now, my review:

I found Storing Up Trouble by Jen Turano to be a very romantic read.  I loved the characters, the intriguing plot, and how she pulled it all together as a masterpiece.  I love to laugh and there were so many laugh-out-loud moments in this one.  My favorite part was her use of Isaiah 30:21. This is one of my favorite authors and I was once again not disappointed in her work.  If you like fiction at its best, you’ll want to get this one.

Yours Truly, Thomas by Rachel Fordham

Here is the book summary:

For three years, Penny Ercanbeck has been opening other people's mail. Dead ends are a reality for clerks at the Dead Letter Office. Still she dreams of something more--a bit of intrigue, a taste of romance, or at least a touch less loneliness. When a letter from a brokenhearted man to his one true love falls into her hands, Penny seizes this chance to do something heroic. It becomes her mission to place this lost letter into the hands of its intended recipient.

Thomas left his former life with no intention of ending up in Azure Springs, Iowa. He certainly didn't expect a happy ending after what he had done. All he wanted to do was run and never look back. In a moment of desperation, he began to write, never really expecting a reply.

When Penny's undertaking leads her to the intriguing man who touched her soul with his words, everything grows more complicated. She wants to find the rightful owner of the letter and yet she finds herself caring--perhaps too much--for the one who wrote it.

And now, my review:

I found Yours Truly, Thomas by Rachel Fordham to be a charming read.  I loved her plot of using the Dead Letter Office as the premise for their coming together.  I felt like this book flowed really well and that the characters were all well placed and played out.  This book is a dreamy read with a splash of intenseness.  It described to me the power of writing words out and sharing one’s soul through writing, beautifully done.

The Land Beneath Us by Sarah Sundin

The Land Beneath Us (Sunrise at Normandy Book #3) by [Sarah Sundin]

Here is the book summary:
In 1943, Private Clay Paxton trains hard with the US Army Rangers at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, determined to do his best in the upcoming Allied invasion of France. With his future stolen by his brothers' betrayal, Clay has only one thing to live for--fulfilling the recurring dream of his death.

Leah Jones works as a librarian at Camp Forrest, longing to rise above her orphanage upbringing and belong to the community, even as she uses her spare time to search for her real family--the baby sisters she was separated from so long ago.

After Clay saves Leah's life from a brutal attack, he saves her virtue with a marriage of convenience. When he ships out to train in England for D-day, their letters bind them together over the distance. But can a love strong enough to overcome death grow between them before Clay's recurring dream comes true?

And now, my review:
I found The Land Beneath Us by Sarah Sundin to be a long read.  It was wrapped around the war in the 1940s.  As a historical fiction, this author paints the times before, during, and after the war really well.  It’s disturbing and heart wrenching some things that took place.  In this story, there is a special thread of redemption and hope running through it.  That was my favorite part.  If you like war historical fictions, you’ll want to check this one out.

And now, my review:
I found The Rebel Bride by Shannon McNear to be a wonderfully romantic war-based read.  The war between the North and South in the United States was wondrously depicted by this author.  The pull of what was going on with both sides.  The mandated help called upon and the internal tug-of-war to truly want to make well.  I enjoyed that she penned the coming together of a person of the North with a person of the South.   She also includes another marriage of sorts that was tough stuff back in the day.  I couldn’t put this one down until I reached the last page.  I highly recommend this romantic read.

The House at the End of the Moor by [Michelle Griep]

Here is the book summary:
What Can a London Opera Star and an Escaped Dartmoor Prisoner Have in Common?

Opera star Maggie Lee escapes her opulent lifestyle when threatened by a powerful politician who aims to ruin her life. She runs off to the wilds of the moors to live in anonymity. All that changes the day she discovers a half-dead man near her house. Escaped convict Oliver Ward is on the run to prove his innocence, until he gets hurt and is taken in by Maggie. He discovers some jewels in her possession—the very same jewels that got him convicted. Together they hatch a plan to return the jewels, clearing Oliver’s name and hopefully maintaining Maggie’s anonymity.

And now, my review:
I think The House at the End of the Moor by Michelle Griep is my favorite by this author so far and I have read most of her books.  This one had some great suspense that drew me in and kept me reading.  I just couldn’t put the book down.  Her need to stay unseen was a wonderful theme in this one.  I enjoyed seeing the story ties come to light and it is full of romance.  I recommend this one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Sense and Sensibility Guide by Karen Swallow Prior

Here is the book summary:
Sense and Sensibility. Frankenstein. The Scarlet Letter. You’re familiar with these pillars of classic literature. You may even be able to rattle off a few quotes, but do you really know how to read them? Do you know how to read them as a Christian?

Through this beautifully designed series, bestselling author, literature professor, and avid reader Karen Swallow Prior will guide you through a selection of classics. She will not only navigate you through the pitfalls that trap readers today, but show you how to read them in light of the gospel, and to the glory of God.

And now, my review:
You know when you see a book and just fall in love with the look of it.  That’s what happened when I got my hands on this one.  I was pleasantly surprised by the linen cover. The gray coloring was delightful and I couldn’t wait to discover how the author guides in this book.  She adds some understanding here and there and after each volume (there are three of them) she has some reflection questions to direct you in thinking through some thoughts.  Overall, I was very pleased with this one!
